Fed Cup: Myskina Honored For Excellence

71098740Russian Anastasia Myskina was been honored with the 2011 Fed Cup Award of Excellence, presented on Nov. 5 in Moscow during the Fed Cup Final between Russia and the Czech Republic.

“Anastasia has been a great factor in the success of the Russian Fed Cup team and an inspiration for the growth of tennis in Russia,” said ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti.

Myskina has contested 11 Fed Cup ties, and was a member of the ‘04 and ‘05 championship teams. She compiled a winning record of 14-5 in singles and 4-1 in doubles.  She was one of Russia’s first highly successful female players, and was named ITF Women’s World Champion in ‘04. That year, she won the Roland Garros singles title, becoming the first Russian woman to win a Grand Slam, and the first to crack the top three.

Myskina won a total of 10 singles titles and five doubles titles, and had a career win-loss record of 355-191. From ’02 to ‘06, she finished each season ranked within the world top 20. She stopped playing competitively due to injury in ‘07.

Past recipients of the Fed Cup Award of Excellence include Billie Jean King, Mary Joe Fernandez, Virginia Wade, Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario and Conchita Martinez.
