Kramer Club’s Hance Takes National 12s to Lead SoCal Winners

Tennis fans should get used to name Kenadi Hance. The Torrance junior is one of the nation’s top 12-and-under players and won the USTA National Hardcourts in both singles and doubles last month. Hance, who is coached by her father Ken, beat No. 5 seeded Carolyn Xie of San Diego in the final, 2-6, 6-3, 6-0, at the Windward Lake Club, Alpharetta, Ga. Hance won seven matches in the 128-player draw event, including her first six in straight sets. She then teamed with Xie to take the doubles title over Lauren Fishbein and Anna Ulyashchenko, 7-6, 6-2. Hance is coached by her father Ken at the South Bay TC and is also coached by the Kramer Club’s Dennis Rizza.

Daniel Nguyen of Oxnard and JT Sundling of Thousand Oaks won the 18s doubles, while Marcos Giron of Thousand Oaks and Nick Chappell of Indianapolis won the 16s. Gregory Garcia of Poway reached the 14s final before going down to Jake Albo, but won the doubles with Drew Dawson of Irvine. Christina Makarova of San Diego reached the 14s Girls final before going out to Hayley Carter 7-5, 6-1. Gabrielle Andrews of Pomona and Katrine Steffensen won the doubles.

ITA All American Riviera 25th Anniversary

UCLA’s Yasmin Schnack is the only Southern California collegiate who got into the main draw singles and also will play doubles with Andrea Remynse.

With Duke’s Mallory Cecil having turned pro after her freshman year, Mosolova has reclaimed the top spot in the Campbell/ITA women’s rankings. Rounding out the top 10 and all expected to challenge at Riviera include: Chelsey Gullickson of Georgia, Marritt Boonstra of Florida, Jana Juricova of California, Hilary Barte of Stanford, Laura Vallverdu of Miami (FL), Kelcy McKenna of Arizona State, Irina Falconi of Georgia Tech, Josipa Bek of Clemson and Fani Chifchieva of Auburn.

The doubles field includes 2009 ITA Women’s Doubles Team of the Year, Renata Kucerkova and Anastasia Petukhova of Fresno State.

Arizona State’s Kelcy McKenna claimed the singles title last year best online casino while the Georgia Tech team of freshman Irina Falconi and junior Amanda McDowell were crowned doubles champions.

Calabasas Challenger Oct. 19-25

The ninth annual USTA $50,000 Men’s Pro Tennis Championships of Calabasas will take place at the Calabasas Tennis & Swim Center Oct. 19-25. Tennis action kicks off Oct. 2-5 with the always exciting wildcard tournament giving up-and-coming locals a shot at a coveted qualifying spot. Qualifying is Oct. 17-18. The event is being run by tournament director Jeff Richards.

Last year, Vince Spadea beat Sam Warburg to win the singles title. There will be a Pro-Am for sponsors, Community Tennis Association appreciation night, USTA League appreciation night, a Pro-Am drill, VIP sponsor party, and Junior Team Tennis Kid’s Day. In addition to daily updates, Richards will be twittering fun details and inside happening during the tournament at http://twitter.com/calabasastennis.

Another strong field is expected this year reflecting the tournament’s past history as Michael Chang, Mark Philippoussis, and Ivo Karlovic have all played the tournament.
